Ms. Chavers is an Emerald Coast native and has lived in the area her entire life.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Florida.  Ms. Chavers received her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida.  She holds a Florida Professional Certificate in Educational Leadership and Elementary Education with endorsements in Gifted Education and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).  Ms. Chavers has over 20 years of educational experience in elementary through high school.

Prior to being named the Principal of Dune Lakes Elementary School by Superintendent A. Russell Hughes, Ms. Chavers was the Assistant Principal at South Walton High School.  She also served as South Walton High School’s Dean of Students and a literacy coach for the Walton County School District.  Before joining Walton County School District, Ms. Chavers was a reading coach for the Success For All Foundation where she assisted school districts all over the United States and Canada in developing and implementing reading programs as well as a systems approach to ensure student success including training and planning with attendance, behavior, parent and family involvement, cooperative culture, and community connections.  Ms. Chavers taught elementary school for 12 years in Okaloosa County.

Jennifer Nick, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Nick is a longtime Walton County educator of 26 years who uses her experience in education to focus on educating the whole child by assisting every child to increase their learning potential, developing student’s social-emotional skills, and developing relationships with students and their families at Dune Lakes Elementary.
 
She is committed to ensuring that the EPIC Vision is at the heart of the mindset of all staff members.  Mrs. Nick concentrates on improving communication, transparency, and controlling bullying and cyber bullying, while focusing on student achievement growth and academic gains. 
 
Prior to moving to Walton County, she was a Speech Pathologist with the Montgomery, Ala. County Public School System for 2 years. Mrs. Nick has served as a special education teacher, regular education teacher, Instructional Coach, District Coordinator in Curriculum and Instruction, and Assistant Principal at Bay Elementary and Emerald Coast Middle School.
 
Mrs. Nick holds the following degrees: Educational Specialist Degree in Education, Master’s Degree in Education and Special Education, and Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Pathology and Education.  Mrs. Nick is endorsed by the Florida Department of Education in: Specific Leaning Disabilities, Educational Leadership, Elementary Education, Prekindergarten/Primary Education, English for Speakers of other Languages, and all levels of School Principalship.
