SSYRA Program

The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award (SSYRA) program is created and managed by the Florida Association of Media Educators (FAME). This group accepts recommendations for books enjoyed by students. Each year they curate a list of 15 titles. They create lists for the SSYRA Jr. program for grades K-2, which includes 10 picture books and 5 chapter books. They create SSYRA lists for grades 3-5 and 6-8. There is also a Teens Read list for grades 9-12. Each spring students who read 3 or more of the titles on the list are able to vote on their favorite book. Those votes are submitted to FAME and compiled with the other participating school libraries in Florida. A winner is announced each April, selected by students! This is a fun program with excellent titles and is the only local award chosen by students.
