PE

Message from our Coaches 2023-2024

Hello to all of our Sandpiper parents and welcome back to school! We are looking forward to a great year with your children and just wanted to remind you of a few of the important things pertaining to PE.

The Florida Department of Education has mandated that all elementary students will receive 150 minutes of physical education each week. Therefore, each of your children’s classes will have PE with us the same three days each week all school year long, which will make it easier for your planning purposes. Your children’s homeroom teachers can communicate this to you or you can reach us by email at any time via the school website. In addition, safety is our priority and it’s very important for our students to come to class prepared on the days they have PE.

Please ensure they are not wearing flip-flops, open-toed shoes, “Crocs”, or any shoes that do not completely cover and protect the feet, while providing appropriate support for physical activity. Similarly, we have a beautiful gym and are very proud of our facility. We do our very best to keep it clean and aesthetically pleasing! Therefore, hard soled shoes, boots, dress shoes, and those similar cannot be worn on the gym floor. As required, when students are not prepared for class, they may be given alternate assignments to complete or could possibly sit out during activities in the gym.

Because physical education is required and graded, a pattern of non-participation in PE can negatively affect a report card grade.

Last, but certainly not least, if your child is sick or has a doctor’s note excusing him/her from participation, please remember to send it in. Realistically, not all sickness involves visiting a doctor, so a note from a parent will suffice as well. Those can be hand-written or emailed. Please include all three PE coaches (King, Farris, and Beard PE Excuse Note) when emailing. Again, welcome back to school! We are so excited to have the opportunity to share our love of lifetime fitness with your children.
